A capsule wardrobe might just be your new best friend if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume (or lack?) of clothing choices each morning,
Capsule wardrobe is such a buzz phrase these days. There’s a high likelihood you’ve seen them plenty of times online—ones that consist of lot of neutral colors.
To me…they all start looking exactly alike. But let’s get one thing straight – a capsule wardrobe doesn’t have to be boring, bland, or a parade of neutrals.
I have a completely different take on capsules!
Imagine with me for a moment, a capsule wardrobe that’s versatile, chic, and bursting with personality. Yes, it’s possible! And it starts with a spearmint green pantsuit…(hold on…you’ll see!)
Your Complete Capsule Wardrobe Guide:
Capsule Wardrobe Benefits:
- Eases Decision-Making: With a capsule wardrobe, you narrow your choices, making mornings stress-free and giving you more time to enjoy that cup of coffee.
- Versatility: When done right, a capsule wardrobe allows you to mix and match pieces effortlessly, creating A BUNCH of outfits from a limited number of items. Pretty much everything goes together!
- Cost-Effective: Investing in a few high-quality pieces means you buy less and wear more, saving you money in the long run.
- Sustainable Fashion: Reducing the number of clothes you buy helps minimize your carbon footprint. Bonus!
- Personal Style Booster: A well-curated capsule wardrobe reflects your style more accurately, helping you feel confident and put-together every day.
Capsule Wardrobe Drawbacks:
- Initial Investment: Building a capsule wardrobe might require a significant upfront cost if you’re starting from scratch…But it doesn’t have to, and you’re also free to start small and add smart pieces each year.
- Limited Variety: If not carefully planned, a capsule wardrobe can feel repetitive, especially if you crave variety in your daily outfits. (Focus on different fabrics and styles for interest.)
Building a Capsule Wardrobe with Pop:
- Start with a Statement Piece: Begin with something that stands out and makes you feel fabulous – like our spearmint green pantsuit. This sets the tone for your capsule and adds a pop of color right from the start.
- Incorporate Neutrals: Neutrals are the glue that holds a capsule wardrobe together. Think classic white blouses, navy trousers, and black blazers. These pieces will be the foundation of your capsule.
- Add Color and Patterns: Don’t shy away from colors and patterns. Incorporate pieces that reflect your personality. Floral blouses, striped tops, and colorful skirts can add vibrancy and fun to your wardrobe.
- Mix Textures: Combine different fabrics and textures to add depth to your outfits. A silky blouse paired with wool trousers or a leather jacket over a cotton dress can create interesting and stylish combinations.
- Consider Versatility: Choose pieces that can be dressed up or down. A shift dress that works for both the office and a night out or a pair of trousers that looks great with a blazer or a casual tee.
- Stick to a Palette: While adding color, try to stick to a cohesive color palette. This ensures that most pieces can be mixed and matched effortlessly.
- Accessorize: Accessories can change the look of an outfit completely. Scarves, belts, jewelry, and shoes can add a unique touch to your capsule wardrobe without taking up much space.
Psst...I may make a small commission on any of the shoppable items. Let me know if you have any questions.
Example Capsule Wardrobe:
Here’s a breakdown of MY capsule that all started with the spearmint green pantsuit*. (Not all pieces shown are exactly what I own.)
- Color palette: White, spearmint, hot pink
- Fabrics/textures: Viscose/poly, satin, cotton, linen, denim
- Variety: No two pieces exactly the same
- Silver jewelry: the base metal
- Jewelry pop: Brings in color tying in color scheme.
- Jeans: Consider the blue jeans neutral. You could sub in white jeans, too.
- Casual and dressy shoes: Gives me the ability to dress outfits up or down.
- Printed Scarf or two tone jewelry: A pink & green combo would solidify the looks even more…on my shopping list!
*You might want to add in another neutral color if color blocking isn’t for you. I could easily add in lighter shades that occur in the camisole print as well, and leave the pink out altogether.
With these pieces, there are countless outfits. I’ve created a few outfit boards that can live in my personal style app! But truly the possibilities are endless and anything but boring!
