9 Spring/Summer Shoe Trends to Try Now

Shoes! I’m so excited to be bringing you my first spring trend report: Spring/Summer Shoe Trends for 2021.

Seriously, shoes are the one item that always fit whether you gain or lose weight. (And I know I’ve been on the gaining train, lately.) And shoes are easy to try on. Whether you order shoes online or you shop in stores, no need to strip down to try on spring footwear.

So today’s post is all about spring/summer shoe trends. I usually put out a spring styles trend report before I write the shoe post, but what the heck…nothing else in 2020 or 2021 has gone exactly in order, so why not mix things up a bit?

9 Spring/Summer Shoe Trends to Try Now

Just click each item photo to shop. Scroll across to see all items in a look. I make a small commission from your purchase at no additional cost to you. Let me know if I can assist you with a purchase. Thanks for your support! You can see all of my top pics on my storefront.

And by the way! If you see a style you like, but the color isn’t perfect, click through to the site. Many of the styles I’ve chosen come in multiple colors.

Ah, and last but not least…many of the shoes I’ve found for you are from Shopbop, and they are having a great sale right now, so be sure to check them out!

Sneakers

Sneakers  are being worn with everything these days!

White leather sneakers have been trending over the last couple of years; however, retro sneakers are the latest. In addition to the basics,  there are lots of fun and colorful modern renditions, too.

(I do recommend keeping your workout sneakers in your gym locker, strictly for working out.)

Wovens

Spring is bringing us beautiful woven materials such as leather, cotton twill and rope. We’ve gotten a hint of woven leather in the last couple of years, and this year it appears readily available, yet unique…if you know what I mean.

Slides

Slides are perfect for spring and summer, since many of us will be working from home a while longer (or permanently.) Slide ‘em on to run an errand; slide ‘em off under your desk when your Zoom meeting starts!

You’ll find slides for every occasion from the pool to special occasion.

Flip-flops

Using the term loosely, I’m actually talking about both cushy, platform flip flops a la 2000 and also thong sandals with a heel.

Both styles are great casually, especially if you can find a fun color;  however, when you do go back to your office I know the slapping this style makes drives employers crazy.

Sport style sandals (fancy tevas)

With comfort reigning supreme, sport style sandals are huge for spring and summer 2021. Think Teva styling but more fun colors, materials and flair. And as casual as so much of summer goes, why not snag actual Tevas? (So much Teva love here!)

Ballet flats

I’ll share a secret…I’ve actually never stopped wearing my AGL ballet flats I bought in 2012!

Ballet flats are truly a classic—this season they’re back on the fashion scene available in new materials with interesting details. I’m also noticing the latest ballet flats have a higher vamp, which gives them a completely new look.

These flats are perfect for cooler days, an air conditioned office or if you haven’t had your pedicure yet. I’m a fan of structured ballet flats for both longevity and the sophistication factor.

Flatforms/platforms

Flatforms are fab!

Think about it…your foot is flat; just an inch or two off the ground. For ultimate comfort in this heel/not a heel, seek out a cushioned foot bed.

Bright colors

I’m excited to see color re-introduced in footwear after many years of mostly neutral choices. If color scares you a little bit, either use brightly colored shoes as your pop of color in a neutral outfit.

Psst…not loving bright colors? This trend extends to softer tones as well that sub in perfectly for neutrals.

Strappy Sandals

You’ll find strappy sandals in flats, kitten heels and sky-high heels. The newest iterations seem to have a sharply squared toe and are fairly minimalistic.

Also in this family are lace up (laced up on your leg.) Separating themselves from gladiator sandals, these are more polished and sophisticated.

Which spring/summer shoe trends will you try?

I recently took an audit of my spring summer shoes and found I truly NEED new footwear! I’m excited for bright colors, woven leather sandals and sneakers. I’ve also always wanted to try flatforms, so I may give that trend a try too!
