I believe that when it comes to fashion, for every rule, there is a way to break it. Here are some ways to break out of a shoe rut and have some fun.
- Colorful shoes can add some much needed pizazz to a simple outfit. Here is the best way to wear shoes in a different hue from your skirt or pant hem. Let’s say you are wearing a black suit, and you want to wear red shoes with it. It’s important to make sure that you’ve got red in a pretty substantial quantity close to your face, so that when the eye travels down to your feet, it is led back up to the red in your top or your necklace. However, avoid a contrasting shoe if you’re standing in front of an audience making a presentation. No matter what, the shoes will be a major distraction.
- Black shoes are perfectly acceptable to wear with navy. Navy is a difficult color to match. Black is a better choice than navy unless you’re able to find navy shoes that are a perfect match with your outfit. Another option to black shoes would be metallics such as matte silver, gold or bronze, which are all perfectly acceptable for daytime. Remember to keep your occasion and audience in mind when making your choice.
- Have fun with your shoes, especially if you must wear flats and low heels. People really notice shoes, so look for a pair with contrasting stitching, a buckle, bow or other interesting detail. Comfort does not have to equate with boring or lackluster. You’ll be amazed how a new pair of shoes can add a little spring to your step, not to mention how great you’ll feel when you’re getting multitudes of compliments!
